1.What is monkeypox?

Monkeypox is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by monkeypox virus infection. The incubation period is 5 to 21 days, usually 6 to 13 days.There are two distinct genetic clades of monkeypox virus – the Central African (Congo Basin) clade and the West African clade.

Early symptoms of monkeypox virus infection in humans include fever, headache, myalgia, and swollen lymph nodes, along with extreme fatigue. A systemic pustular rash may ensue, leading to secondary infection.

2.What’s the differences of Monkeypox this time?

The dominant strain of monkeypox virus, the “clade II strain,” has caused large outbreaks around the world. In recent cases, the proportion of more severe and fatal “clade I strains” is also increasing.

The WHO said that a new, more deadly and more transmissible strain of monkeypox virus, “Clade Ib”, emerged in the Democratic Republic of the Congo last year and spread rapidly, and has spread to Burundi, Kenya and other countries. No cases of monkeypox have ever been reported. neighboring countries, this is one of the main reasons for announcing that the monkeypox epidemic once again constitutes a PHEIC event.

The salient feature of this epidemic is that women and children under 15 years old are most affected.
